Germany - Help to rebuild Rade village after the floods of summer 2002After the summer of 2002, the Lafarge Zement unit in Germany collected €32,000 among its employees and Business Unit managers and donated the money to its employees hit by the floods. A few months later, in the Karsdorf region (Eastern Germany), reconstruction work was still not completed and the company decided to help a neighboring village, Rade, in its rebuilding efforts. Rade Objectivet was decided to donate the amount that would have been spent for the usual company Christmas presents, to the village of Rade to help reconstruct buildings in the village. Until then, Rade had not profited from donations and public attention. SummaryIn February 2003, Lafarge Zement gave a €20,000 cheque to the Mayor of Rade. The donation helped the town rebuild the sports stadium, the swimming pool and restore the Teenclub to its former condition. This was possible thanks to the readiness of Lafarge Zement to do without the usual annual Christmas presents. The amount previously allocated to Christmas presents was directly given to Rade village. ResultsThe village of Rade was able to rebuild a large part of its damaged community buildings and the population regained a better life. Lafarge Zement and its employees were proud of this action and have created a strong relationship with the community.
