- Develop a common safety culture across all operations;
- Eradicate accidents.
Lafarge Spain has developed a Health & Safety program named +vida with a view to involving all its employees in the development of a common health and safety culture. This program enables employees to know perfectly all the policies, norms and standards that govern the Group's management of safety.
"+vida" is made up of 11 initiatives which deal with critical issues in order to improve safety performance in the country:
- Clear rules,
- H&S working groups,
- Safe working procedures,
- Learning & training,
- and IT tools.
Teams - one per initiative - have been created to roll out the program at a local level.
For example, the "Leadership" team is in charge of enabling every Lafarge manager to deal with safety within his team, by establishing clear mechanisms. In the same way, the "Mobilization" team works on deploying short mobilization campaigns and intensive activities to raise employee awareness.
The +vida program goes even further than the professional sphere and initiates Lafarge employees to basic safety rules to follow outside of the workplace. As an example, the "Cuentos para papas y mamas" ("Tales for daddies and mummies") published last year remind employees of some basic rules for their children's safety at home.
The entire organization is geared towards leading indicators with a strong empowerment of all the employees. All business lines (aggregates, cement and concrete) share a common H&S management system and H&S working groups across all sites are leading safety.
