The Perpignan-Figueras rail segment is a high-speed line along which passenger trains regularly reach speeds of 300 km/h. And the twin-bore Perthus tunnel, which travels through 8.3 km of solid bedrock, was built to enable trains to maintain their high speeds, even while crossing the Pyrenees mountain range!
The tunnel is just one of the many colossal works needed to complete the LGV, which includes numerous bridges, viaducts and flyovers. Construction company Eiffage TP, one of the three major French contractors, managed these key infrastructure components and called on Lafarge to supply the project with over 100,000 m3 of concrete following the success of our close collaboration on the Millau Viaduct.
Our integrated offer included providing mobile mixing plants located on different worksites and an extensive network of permanent plants, as well as strict materials quality control to ensure high quality concrete and daily logistical planning, all of which brought real added value to the general contractor.
