Euronext: LG, NYSE: LR Paris,

Lafarge is the only construction materials company to be listed on the 2006 ‘100 Global Most Sustainable Corporations in the World'.

This is the second year running that Lafarge has made the list since its launch in 2005 by Corporate Knights Inc and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors Inc.

The list comprises publicly-traded, MSCI World-listed companies that, based on research and analysis by Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, have the best developed abilities, relative to their industry peers, to manage the environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities they face. The companies were selected from the Innovest universe of around 1,800 securities.

Lafarge has been pursuing a strategy of sustainable development for many years because it believes that long-term value is best created when considering the interests of the community and environment in which it operates. This strategy reflects the Group's core values and combines industrial know-how, performance, value creation, respect for employees and local cultures, environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources and energy. These values have been translated into action in a variety of ways.

Firstly, Lafarge has established global partnerships with a number of Non-Governmental Organisations. In 2005 the Group renewed its global partnership with WWF, the international conservation organisation, to reinforce its environmental policy and continue its progress on the reduction of C02 emissions. In partnership with Habitat for Humanity Lafarge is committed to providing decent housing for the underprivileged in 25 countries. Since 2003 Lafarge has been working with CARE to fight against HIV/AIDS in the workplace through prevention campaigns and by providing free antiretroviral treatment.

Secondly, aware of its responsibilities towards society and the enormous challenges facing the construction industry for the future of the planet, Lafarge takes into account the impact of its products over the course of their life-cycle, from their initial manufacture to their end-of-life recycling. To this end the Group is committed to developing products and working with the building industry as a whole to promote a more sustainable approach to construction.

Lafarge, the world leader in building materials, holds top-ranking positions in all four of its Businesses: Cement, Aggregates & Concrete, Roofing and Gypsum. Lafarge employs 80,000 people in 75 countries and posted sales of €16 billion in 2005.
