The Burntwood River in northern Manitoba is located in an environmentally protected area. During initial discussions for the Wuskwatim Dam project, local inhabitants unanimously voiced their support for a run-of-the-river dam to reap the benefits of an expanded electricity grid without harming the local ecosystem. This type of dam doesn’t store water in reservoirs, eliminating the need to displace local flora or fauna.
To respond to this challenge, we supplied 120,000 m3 of concrete from a portable wet-mix plant setup. Even the sub-zero temperatures of Canadian winters couldn’t put the brakes on our operations, which continued to run 24/7, allowing for on-time delivery.
Officially inaugurated in 2012, the 200-MW Wuskawatim Hydroelectric Power Station now provides clean, renewable energy to 75,000 local inhabitants!
