Christian Herrault, Group Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Organization and a member of Lafarge's Executive Committee, was last night named Human Resources Manager of the Year for 2006 by a panel of human resources managers of global companies assembled by Hudson, the international HR consultants.

Through this accolade, the HR profession has paid tribute to the man, his career and his commitment to the human resources function.

During the eight years that he has occupied his current position, Christian has operated in a group that has undergone major transformations to become the world leader in building materials. Appointed Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Organization in 1998, he saw the number of Group employees double within a few years, as Lafarge's international expansion raised the number of sites around the world to 3,000, spread over 80 countries. Today, with 80,000 employees of 90 different nationalities, the diversity of the Group is regarded as a source of constantly evolving richness.

Supporting this transformation and helping make change possible, Christian was project leader for three years of a far-reaching corporate project called “Leader for Tomorrow”, sponsored by the CEO, Bruno Lafont. Launched in 2003, following a period of unprecedented growth for the Group, this strongly collaborative project had the ambition of mobilizing all the Group's employees around its values in order to establish a common culture of excellence and define the conditions needed for the Group to achieve its ambition of being the long-term leader in its sector.

The success of this project made it possible to launch “Excellence 2008” the strategic plan, announced by Lafarge on June 22, which combines the values of care, respect and excellence, the interests of its shareholders and its ambition to be the best in its sector.

A graduate of Ecole Polytechnique and the ENSM engineering school of Paris, Christian Herrault, age 55, joined Lafarge in 1985. His career path saw him occupy a series of richly varied operational positions in the Group until he was named Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Organization and appointed to the Group's Executive Committee in 1998. He still holds this post today.
