Brazil - Gender diversity program

Brazil

In line with the Group’s Sustainability Ambitions 2020, Lafarge Brazil set up a team in charge of implementing actions to achieve the goal of having 35% of senior management positions held by women. The initiative is reaping dividends, with already 15 female managers in Lafarge Brazil - compared to only 2 in 2009 - and 2 women on the Executive Committee!

Objectives

  • Increase the participation of women in management positions

Summary

In terms of women's integration, Lafarge Brazil can be seen as a model within the Group. Indeed, as Lafarge launched its Sustainability Ambitions 2020, our Brazilian business tried to achieve the goal of having 35% of senior management positions held by women by setting up a team in charge of the topic.

A number of initiatives were developed and implemented, stating a clear message that Lafarge Brazil is a great place for women to work:

  • celebrations for Women's and Mother's Days,
  • extension of day care aid to cover children up to the age of 6,
  • gifts to mothers of newborns, etc.

The strongest measure was to extend the goal of having 35% of women in leadership positions to the trainee program. 40% of the trainees hired in 2013 were women, and most of them went on to occupy operational positions.

Results

Women now represent 23% of the total employees at Lafarge Brazil. The number of female managers jumped from 2 in 2009 to 15 today and already two women are on the Executive Committee.
