Regardless of the economic situation, Lafarge is committed to reducing is environmental footprint. To this end, multiple initiatives are undertaken around the world and in particular on two key subjects: carbon emissions reduction and biodiversity protection.
Through Lafarge’s long-standing partnership with WWF International, ambitious CO2 reduction targets were set:
To reach these objectives, Lafarge relies on three main axes:

It was our belief that if Lafarge took a leadership position in terms of controlling its own emissions, if it proved that emissions could be reduced, that that would inspire other companies to follow in their path and indeed that’s what’s begun to happen.
For me, the good news about the work over the last several years is two-fold:

Lafarge’s cement activity thereby substantially reduces its carbon emissions. The Group also works with NGO’s to best rehabilitate its quarries fully respecting biodiversity.
At this former aggregates quarry, the local flora and fauna thrives naturally today thanks to the close cooperation between Lafarge and the ANVL.

So that we could clearly explain what we expect in terms of earthworks, and then to provide follow-up such as seeing what wildlife is present, keeping the company informed particularly on development.

And also being responsible for the management of particular zones that are hard to manage mechanically, like this sector or the small areas of wet meadowland where it is difficult to use machines. This follow-up allows us to learn lessons which will then enable Lafarge to introduce new features, having found out about the success or failure of the first projects.

Biodiversity protection and revitalization and CO2 emissions reduction are just two of the many ways in which Lafarge cares for the plant and its inhabitants.
